Raku clay
sculpture (right and below); actual size
approximately 8 inches tall. The second of two sculptures in
this series, exploring the paradoxical fragility/strength of
the human condition.
Raku is my absolute
favorite method of working with clay, because it's
processes incorporate and represent the elements; earth,
air, fire and water. It was amazing to me that this
sculpture (or any) made it through the raku firing
process, because of the extreme temperature shifts from
the kiln to the reduction barrel to the water
trough.
