BIO

I am a multi-disciplinary visual artist focused on fine art and design. My experience includes painting using both physical and digital media, and creating virtual materials for film, television and product design.

Painting is my personal expression and escape. Working between physical and digital mediums offers continuous creative challenge; each method feeds and informs the other in my work.

My current paintings are figurative expressions in acrylic on canvas or birch panels that for me invoke an inner experience where emotion and memory entwine.

During 2013 - 2016 my time was marked by the losses of 4 loved ones in quick succession. The grief broke me open, and I existed in a place beyond words. I experienced re-evaluation, a re-prioritization of what is truly meaningful. Then I started painting again.

Working through my grief and finding solace in an archive of inherited family photos, the first painting was of a loved one and I in the snow. Then I painted another, and another, until I had captured each of my four lost loved ones in a memory, each an ordinary moment in time. Working on these canvases helped me sit with and process my grief, and they became a celebration, a requiem.

I was brought up to believe that we live on in the memories of others. Sometimes I gather random thrifted photos, the faded subjects holding stories forgotten. Sitting with each one, I listen and then I paint.

My paintings are held in private collections in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Norway.

Thank you for your interest in my work.

A portfolio of my paintings for the Suit of Wands in the Science Tarot Project, and images from our launch party at the California Academy of Sciences.

One through ten card designs were painted using Photoshop, and the face cards were painted using acrylic mixed media on 24x36 inch canvases. For the launch party display I bound the four paintings together at the corners, and displayed on a raised central pedestal. There were also two stations with glowing light cube stands on which rested view master viewers containing the card art .
